Two of my really good friends are having their first baby! =) Congratulations to Russ & Rachel on your first born. Parenthood is such an adventure with ups, downs, growth, need for prayer, and maturing us in ways we otherwise cannot. We had such a fun and relaxed time taking maternity photos last Tuesday at the Campbell Airstrip Creek trailhead, one of my favorite places in Anchorage! =) I love the variety of photos. My favorites show Russ’ true love for his wife and little girl to be: Livya. I’m looking forward to newborn photos with Livya in the near future. =)
John & Candy’s Anchorage Courthouse Wedding: The wedding was short and sweet. A close gathering of friends to support their lifelong commitment. Afterwards, we had a fun walkabout downtown Anchorage, Alaska for a bride and groom portrait session. It was a fun experience as we took photos, laughed, moved to the next location, & repeated.

Our Annual Fall Family Outing consisted of enjoying the drive to and fro Portage Glacier, then stopping 5 minutes from our house @ the Campbell Creek Trailhead for some fun family portraits! =)

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Curtis (an awesome Senior) who is interested in hunting, camping, & football at Campbell Creek Trailhead in Anchorage, Alaska (AK). We had fun setting up the shots with his bow & arrow. I told him “Go ahead & point your bow & arrow straight at me —- just PLEASE DON’T DRAW THE STRING BACK!” HAHAHHA! =) Then I continued by “I should be the only one shooting anything around here now. I’ll shoot you with a Canon, but I promise it won’t hurt!” =)
Curtis’ dad came along on the photoshoot & I had them play a game of catch for some great action shots, and also the sentimental side of Father & Son playing football. For some reason, when I tell two guys who like football to play catch, they had no problem with it at all! =) Who would’ve figured?
Curtis just recently got his photos back and was asking for a little help with choosing the best photo. These are my favorites, but I too am having a hard time choose…You tell me, what’s your favorite senior picture? They’re on our Facebook account as well…so go there and give us your favorite senior portrait(plus, don’t forget to like our page).
I have the wonderful blessing of knowing a great family: Nelson, Michelle, Grace, & soon to be Nelson III. Today I had the privilege of taking their beautiful daughter, Grace’s one year old photos. She got nice & bundled up, looking as cute as a button! =) This was actually her first taste (literally) of playing in the snow. Thank You Jesus for such a beautiful day! =)

We had a fun family portrait session with David & Holly’s Family. I have known David from my work as a teacher for about 3 years now, and have now become friends with his family over that time. When we took photos, the wind was blowing pretty good that day, but they were such sports about the wind and cold. They did their best to smile, pretend it was warm, and still have a fun portrait session. We had lots of fun taking photos on the east side of anchorage, Alaska.
Met with Brooklyn last week for her Alaska Senior Pics and from the moment we started, she had a huge smile on her face. I loved how easy and natural the senior portrait photoshoot came for making great photos! =) Though feeling nervous, she did great! I loved the balloon photos we took at the end as well. These are definitely some of my favorites senior pictures this year. (We took these senior photos at the Loussac Library in Anchorage, Alaska.)
Had a Sunny Palmer Alaska Maternity Photoshoot with Mikki in Palmer. It took a while to get her fiance into it, but eventually he came around and we got some good maternity photos. =)
The bridge is one of my favorite places in Alaska to photograph people on. Let me know if you would like to have your maternity photos taken there! =)
Anchorage High School Senior Portraits Photographers – Cindy’s Senior Pictures
I met Cindy at the Alaska Botanical Garden in August. We perused all the different landscape at the beautiful garden. We also moved up the road to photograph a few more pictures in one of my favorite places along Tudor. Cindy is a Senior at West high school, and looking forward to going to college next year. =) She is a very, very kind gal with a beautiful natural smile. It was a nice, relaxed, and wonderful senior picture session. I really like how Cindy’ senior portraits turned out awesome.
Had a very fun and friendly Anchorage Alaska High School Senior Portrait Photos with Cydney at Point Woronzof. She was super friendly, had a super happy dog, and was very flexible with trying out different places and poses. It was a lot of fun working with her. My favorite senior pictures were with Cydney in the grass and next to the graffiti. I love how the grass photos look like she is in a grass field. I love the graffiti because it’s just fun and playful! She did a great job and helped us create awesome photos!
Recently Photographed a wonderful family at Cuddy Midtown Park in Anchorage, Alaska. Rachel & Tim’s family were a lot of fun, and I really liked how silly their daughter Ella smiled. Overall, I think the photos from this family portrait turned out awesome! =)
Had a fun time at museum with a wonderful portrait session of mother & her baby. I just loved his so serious expressions: “Why so serious?” He had such serious expressions it made me smile! He definitely seemed tired during this child portrait session, which is common with young ones. But from an artistic perspective, it made the photos such a nice contrast with each other & so many smiling baby photos I’ve taken. Don’t get me wrong – I love smiling babies! But this guys’ serious expressions make his smiles all the bigger! Which of course, he had some great smiles in his children’s portraits session too! =)
A beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day to… take some awesome engagement photos of Shelby & Her soon-to-be hubby. =) We met just off the road on tudor & enjoyed some April sun rays. Then later headed down Tudor for one of my favorite portrait places: the bridge on campbell creek. As always, I loved seeing their love for each other, and the precious time spent together. I felt honored by some great compliments from the couple, saying how relaxed and natural they felt with me as their photographer throughout the engagement photography session. It always makes my day to hear I helped make other’s days too. =)

Had a wonderful time with David & Clarissa at Glen Alps, Flat Top in Anchorage, Alaska. We had an engagement portrait session with some rather perfect weather, that is if you’re not wearing Converse Tennis Shoes (right, David?). The scenery is stunning as always, and the photos came out great. However, my favorite part of the engagement portrait shoot was watching the interaction, care, & devotion these two already have towards each other. I can tell they are just good to each other & for each other. It doesn’t take too hard of a look to see those essential elements pop in the engagement photos below.
Anchorage Alaska Wedding Photography – Had the wonderful pleasure of meeting & photographing the newly married Burdues on their wedding day in June. They were good friends of some old friends/coworkers, and had recommended me to them. It was great being a part of the b/c there was genuine love and trust already built up well within their relationship. It was a joy to see how much care & adoration Bob has for his new wife & I wish them the best!
You will notice that all photos are BW – don’t worry, we took color copies too! =) I just had chosen my favorites in BW this time, and wanted to share them with you. Maybe, if you’re lucky, I’ll post some color versions as well! =)
Just met up with Matthew on Saturday for his Anchorage High School Senior Pictures at Lousac Library. It was a great time b/c Matthew was such a chilled person. I really enjoyed how friendly he and his mother, Deanna, were. They even hooked me up with a nice pair of gloves so that my fingers wouldn’t freeze! I was amazed at how well Matthew held up in the cold, no complaining or anything. =) I have found that I do not like the stiff robotic look that some poses can create, and he did a great job of moving into nice modeling naturally, that didn’t look like a robot. He made it fun, and as I always tell people, the more fun you have, the more fun the photos are. =)
In February, I had the blessing of being a part of Kate’s wedding on 20 mile Creek just between Girdwood and Portage. We started out in Girdwood by catching a ride on a helicopter over the mountains of the Chugach Mountains. The experience was amazing! Originally, the wedding photography was going to be in March with a more typical wedding and reception, but as the day came, pressure mounted, and Kate and her husband (fiance’ at the time) decided to forget the ceremony in a chapel in lieu of a wedding of a life time! Here’s a little sampling of the wedding.
Because of the coldness of the wind & the February weather, the ceremony was so fast that I literally blinked & it was over! I think it lasted no more than 5 mins with a few quick pictures. Unfortunately, because of the wind and cold, we didn’t get many photos taken at the location of the ceremony. We did make up for it, with photos back at helicopter landing site. Being my first experience with a helicopter wedding, I was surprised at how challenging it was to take great photos in the helicopter. The pilot reminded me several times not to touch the plexiglass because it could leave a scratch. The object to get wide angles, but avoid the details of inside the helicopter was quite challenging. I decided that to give the wedding more of a photojournalism look, that I really liked showing the instruments, and internal designs of the helicopter.
The next post includes a lot of fun and creative special effects that I did to enhance some of my favorite wedding photography shots.
Enjoy the Helicopter Wedding Photography
What a wonderful family portraits session I had with Richelle & her family at Peter’s Creek, Alaska. They were very friendly & the kids were full of expression. I loved meeting with them for this Fall Anchorage Family Portrait session. The leaf fight was by far my favorite scenes to shoot!
Lindsay did a wonderful job of being a model for our senior pics photoshoot. At the beginning of the senior pics she was feeling really nervous. After a little bit of joking around, and encouraging her that she was doing a great job, she really relaxed. The Senior pics came out great, and showed her natural beauty with some fun and creative photos.
Anchorage High Senior Pictures with Lindsay
Hard to believe, by the end, but Lindsay started out very shy. As we got to talking, and she got used to have a camera taking her photos, her natural smile and beauty showed through. I love photographing high school seniors because I often get to see people who are very shy to get their photographs, open up and feel very natural and have fun as we move around, talk, and get to know each other. I consider it a huge privilege to get to learn so much about a person’s life in such a short time. It’s a joy to learn how life is, interests, goals, dreams.

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph this young man’s senior pictures in Downtown, Anchorage, Alaska. He was up visiting up from Texas in the middle of the winter (brr! for him). We had a ton of fun trying all different kinds of poses, styles, and backgrounds. Next year, he’s headed off to military college, and I wish him the best!

Anchorage Wedding Photography – Damien & Shaun: Before, During, & Formals of Ceremony from Cooper Landing. I took their wedding photos in Cooper Landing, Alaska. The scenery there was amazing! The mountains are right on either side with the beautiful Kenai River rushing on behind us. Shaun & Damien’s wedding photography Though I have lived in Alaska my whole life, I am still amazed at the beauty the Lord has given us in this part of world. Whenever I am asked to take wedding photos outdoors in Alaska, I get so excited because of the magnificence of this place! Enjoy!
Andrew & Krystal were real troopers. It was February & we chose Beluga Point as our location for engagement photography – too windy. So we moved to McHugh Creek – Normally wind covered & perfect – again too windy. We did take some photos there, but we were all soo cold to the bone – so we moved over to the Anchorage museum & had a wonderful time being warm…. (& taking photos). =)
I really enjoyed meeting & photographing Kamaria & Wilmoth. They were so pleasant to get along with & had wonderful friends and family at their wedding. I really enjoyed the strong values & conviction they shared about their commitment to be with each other that they made before God & other people. =)
